Need a little smoking help . . . . .

For as long as I can remember, this little German smoker house has been in the family.

I don't know how it happened but when I married, I wound up with it.  I sat it next to a coffee cup so you can get an idea of the size.  Including the steeple, it is 5" high.  There is an incense cone sitting on top so now the house smells a little like gingerbread.  The roof assembly comes off to store the extra cones which I purchased recently at an import store in Hendersonville, North Carolina (great little town, by the way).

Dad has passed on (the German side of my family) and I tried Googling about it but with no luck.  Does anyone have any information on this kind of smoker?  All the Google hits I got were for new ones to purchase that were much more ornate.

Thanks in advance!

Blessings, Cathi

Oh, I remember seeing those when we lived in Germany in the late 70's - early 80's. I wish I knew more about them but sadly I can't help you. It's a wonderful keepsake, Cathi.

Hi Cathi ~ I remember seeing one of those at a friends house when I was little. I did find a site that tells the history of the German smokers.

I just typed into google traditions of German smokers. Came across this site that sells German Smokers but if you scroll down they have an info box ~ click on articles ~ they have a wealth of info on all kinds of German Traditions/history.
Hope that helps you.

How interesting.
I think I may have seen these as a child but it's only a thought...it looks like something I may have seen. Very cute and I bet the Gingerbread scent would be awesome.

Oh how cool! Love things like this with history. I'll ask my friend - her son lives in Germany.

Well I do not know too much about these kind of things, I have seen similar one, but not identical and this one looks much older. Eventually you could go to an antique shop; someone there might be able to give you some information about it, if not keep it, it’s pretty.

I have one, a little log cabin ~ the roof comes off and there is a hole in the chimney. We always stood the lit incense cone on a little wooden block (that came with it) and then put the roof (lid) back on ~ the smoke from the lit cone inside would rise up through the little chimney, like someone was in there with the fire going!
